Want to know the secret to getting your full security deposit back as a tenant? Learn about the move-out process with SCREM.
Even though moving can be stressful, your move-out process shouldn’t be.
At SCREM, we make sure your rental experience is easy and efficient – until the day you move on. Our knowledgeable staff walks you through a specific set of guidelines to keep everything running smoothly for all involved.
If the move-out process isn’t handled with the care and guidance of an expert, then there’s opportunity for stress and conflict.
Avoid potential costs and rule out surprises with these tips about the move-out process.
The First Step of the Move-out Process
At SCREM, the process begins when you’re paired up with a professional move-out specialist.
“Once you vacate the property, you’ll turn in the keys to the local SCREM office,” explained Steffanie Stelnick, co-owner of SCREM. “After your keys are turned in, we’ll set you up with a move-out specialist.”
The move-out specialist will expect the property to be in the same condition it was when you moved into the property.
“That means all items have been removed, and the appliances and carpets have been deep-cleaned. The walls have been scrubbed … and so on,” Steffanie explained. “The idea is to make the property you’re moving out of look exactly the same way it was when you moved in.”
But SCREM has decades of experience in property management, so the process is as easy as going through a checklist with one of our specialists, Stelnick added.
“Our goal is to make sure the property looks like you’d want it to if you were moving into it – that’s how to ensure your full security deposit is returned.”
The Move-out Process Checklist
At the end of the day, our goal is twofold:
- To make sure the tenant gets the full security deposit back
- To make sure the rental space looks exactly like it did on the tenant’s move-in day
“We want the landlord to be happy with the state of their investment, and we want the tenant to be able to move on to their next home as easily as possible,” Steffanie explained. “Those are both primary goals of ours, as a trusted, local property management company.”
We have a number of services available to SCREM clients that can help people through the process. Our friendly staff is also available whenever you have questions.

How We Can Help
“Our goal is to make sure you don’t experience any surprises during the moving process – which can already be stressful – with step-by-step help,” Steffanie added. “You might not know how clean the landlord expects the property to be, or what you’re expected to be liable for. But that’s OK, we’re here to help.”
SCREM offers an in-house handyman service and works with a number of outside vendors, so the helpful staff can refer you if you need to make any fixes before you leave. We can help you make your apartment, condo or house look new again.
